Shannon L. Mihalko is a Professor at Wake Forest University School of Medicine with a joint appointment in the Department of Social Sciences and Health Policy within the Division of Public Health Sciences. She teaches courses in Health Psychology and Epidemiology and serves as Director of the HES Honors Research Program.
Research Focus: As a behavioral scientist, Dr. Mihalko investigates adherence and quality of life in adults with chronic diseases, particularly knee osteoarthritis and cancer populations. Her work emphasizes behavior change determinants, self-efficacy, and interventions to promote physical activity and nutrition in older adults.
Key Projects: Her research includes the UPBEAT study (cardiovascular decline in breast cancer survivors), the WE-CAN trial (diet/exercise for knee osteoarthritis), and the PALS trial (physical activity for lymphoma patients).
Academic Leadership: Dr. Mihalko mentors students through the HES Honors Research Program and collaborates on multi-center clinical trials.
