Shannon Jenkins

Shannon Jenkins is Professor of Political Science and Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs & Undergraduate Education at University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. She holds a PhD in Political Science from Loyola University Chicago (2003) and a BA in Government and Computer Applications from University of Notre Dame (1993). Since joining UMass Dartmouth in 2004, she has served as Department Chair (2012-2018) and Associate Dean (2020-2024).

Her research explores state legislative decision-making with focus on political organizations and gender dynamics. Additional research examines engaged learning pedagogies' impact on political engagement. Jenkins teaches courses in American Politics, State/Local Politics, Public Policy, and Women and Politics.

Jenkins' publications consistently focus on gender politics, legislative processes, and political participation. Recent work examines social movements (#MeToo), political engagement, and comparative governance structures. Her scholarship demonstrates strong interdisciplinary connections between political institutions and social dynamics.

She has authored/co-authored three books and secured research funding from multiple agencies. Jenkins has supervised doctoral students through the Inter-University Doctoral Program in Educational Studies.
