Shannon Jacobsen

Shannon Jacobsen is Assistant Professor in the Department of Criminology and Justice Studies at Drexel University. Her research examines intersections of gender, race, and class in violence/victimization using mixed methods approaches. She investigates how campus environments shape gendered risk perceptions and analyzes institutional influences on crime reporting.

Educational credentials include a PhD in Criminal Justice from Rutgers University, complemented by MA degrees in Criminal Justice (Rutgers) and Sociology (George Mason University). Before joining Drexel in 2018, she taught at College of William & Mary, offering courses on criminology, gender and crime, victimology, and statistical analysis.

Her scholarship demonstrates consistent focus on contextual determinants of fear and victimization across institutional settings. Recent publications explore qualitative methodology in criminology, campus policing legitimacy, and Arab American vulnerability in ethnic enclaves. Her co-authored textbook 'The Gender of Crime' synthesizes feminist criminological frameworks.
