Dr. Shannon Edmed is a Senior Research Officer at the Institute for Social Science Research (ISSR), part of the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Queensland. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy (QUT) and is a member of the Mental Health and Climate Change Research Network since 2023. Her research focuses on mental health, sleep health, and their intersection with social determinants, climate change, and digital technology. She explores how environmental factors, technology use, and societal structures influence mental and physical health outcomes.
Her work spans diverse populations, including university students, homeless individuals, and cancer survivors, examining topics such as sleep hygiene interventions, the impact of digital technology on children’s routines, and predictive biomarkers for stress. She employs mixed-methods approaches, including scoping reviews, randomized controlled trials, and Bayesian modeling. Notably, her studies address health disparities in marginalized groups and the application of wearable technology for early stress detection.
Dr. Edmed collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to develop practical tools for health research, such as visual aids for informed consent. Her research highlights the need for context-specific interventions addressing both individual behaviors and systemic challenges, particularly in disaster response and urban health.
