Dr. Shannon Digweed is an Associate Professor at MacEwan University, holding a joint appointment in the Department of Psychology and Department of Biological Sciences under the Faculty of Arts and Science. She earned her PhD in Evolution and Behaviour from the University of Lethbridge, along with an MA (Calgary) and BSc (Alberta).
- Teaching: PSYC 104, PSYC 281, PSYC 358, PSYC 406, BIOL 371
- Research Focus: Animal communication and behavior, particularly acoustic structure-function relationships in red squirrels, wood frogs, and American pika.
- Expertise: Animal behavior, cognition, communication, and learning.
Her research examines how acoustic structure in animal vocalizations is shaped by functional requirements, with ongoing projects in red squirrel rattle calls, wood frog mating vocalizations, and establishing American pika field sites. She supervises senior students on independent studies related to acoustic behavior.
