Shannon Cannings is an Assistant Professor of Practice in Drawing at the School of Art, Texas Tech University. She earned her M.F.A. in Painting from Syracuse University and B.F.A. in Painting from Temple University's Tyler School of Art.
Her art practice critically examines gun culture through works like "Distortion" and "Analogous," using painting and drawing to explore themes of play, marketing, and societal acceptance of firearms. Her artistic output spans large-scale oil paintings and smaller watercolor/ink pieces.
She has received significant recognition, including four Hunting Prize finalist selections, and her work has been featured in prestigious venues such as:
