Shannon Brewer is a Research Professor at the School of Fisheries, Aquaculture & Aquatic Sciences, Auburn University, and currently serves as Unit Leader for the U.S. Geological Survey's Alabama Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit. Previously, she held roles including Assistant Unit Leader at the Oklahoma Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit and Associate/Assistant Professor at Oklahoma State University’s Department of Natural Resources Ecology and Management.
Education: Ph.D. in Fisheries and Wildlife Sciences (University of Missouri, 2008), M.S. in Fisheries and Wildlife Sciences (2004), and B.S. in Biological Sciences (Missouri Western State University, 2001).
Her research focuses on identifying mechanisms affecting rare, declining, or ecologically/economically important aquatic species. Key areas include disturbance impacts on stream ecosystems (e.g., drought, environmental flows), improving riverine sampling techniques, and conserving stream fauna. She emphasizes applied solutions for management challenges in lotic ecosystems.
Publications reflect expertise in fish ecology, habitat modeling, and conservation strategies. Recent work addresses species like Smallmouth Bass, Blue Sucker, and crayfish, with themes of population dynamics, habitat use, and ecohydrological modeling.
- Awards: Distinguished Service Award (2020), Rising Star Honoree (2013), and leadership roles in the American Fisheries Society.

- Grants/Advising: No specific grants listed, though her research is agency-funded (e.g., USGS). Students not explicitly listed.
Labs/Teams: Active in interdisciplinary teams addressing riverine ecosystems and conservation challenges.
