Dr. Shannon B. Wanless is an Associate Professor and Director of the Office of Child Development at the University of Pittsburgh's School of Education. Her work focuses on social justice and equity (SJ&E) in early childhood development, teacher training, and organizational leadership. She leads a university-community partnership center dedicated to ensuring all children thrive.
Education:
- PhD in Human Development and Family Sciences, Oregon State University
- MA in Early Childhood Education, University of Michigan
- Post-Doctorate, Center for Advanced Study of Teaching & Learning (CASTL), University of Virginia
Research Interests: Examines how children, teachers, and organizational leaders develop SJ&E competencies. Explores classroom and organizational climates that promote equity, particularly for marginalized communities. Research includes cross-cultural studies (e.g., Taiwan's collectivist culture) and resilience in refugee/undocumented families.
