Eric Dearing is a Professor at Boston College's Department of Counseling, Developmental & Educational Psychology and serves as Executive Director of the Mary E. Walsh Center for Thriving Children. His research focuses on how family, early education, and community environments affect cognitive, language, and social-emotional development in disadvantaged children. He has authored over 100 publications and co-edited the Handbook of Early Childhood Programs, Practices, and Policies.
Education: Ph.D., M.A. (University of New Hampshire); B.A. (University of Colorado at Colorado Springs).
Research emphasizes promoting high-quality parent and educator engagement to improve math learning for low-income children. Key areas include:
- Socioeconomic disparities in child development
- Educational interventions in high-poverty schools
- Parental engagement strategies
Grants include leadership roles in the Heising-Simons Foundation-funded DREME Network. Awards: Foundation for Child Development Young Scholar, National Academy of Education/Spencer Postdoctoral Fellow.
