Geetha Ramani is an Associate Professor in the Department of Human Development and Quantitative Methodology at the University of Maryland. She holds a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh (2005) and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Carnegie Mellon University. Her research focuses on how social interactions, particularly play and family environments, influence children's cognitive and mathematical development. She directs the Early Childhood Interaction Lab, exploring interventions to enhance learning through cooperative activities.
Dr. Ramani’s work spans early math skills, peer collaboration, and parental guidance. She has received awards such as the 2019 Graduate Faculty Mentor of the Year and Excellence in Scholarship from the University of Maryland. Her research has been funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, Heising-Simons Foundation, and Spencer Foundation. She teaches courses including The Young Child as Mathematician (undergraduate) and Cognitive Development and Learning (graduate).
