Shanna Bastiaan-Net is a VLAG Researcher at Wageningen University & Research, affiliated with the Food, Health & Consumer Research department. Her work focuses on protein digestibility, food allergen mechanisms, and immunological responses to food components. She leads research initiatives involving 3D organoid models and immune system-on-a-chip technologies.
Research Interests: Her studies explore protein functionality in digestion, allergen sensitization pathways, and the impact of food components on immune systems. She applies advanced in vitro models like human intestinal organoids and biofabricated systems to simulate biological responses accurately.
Collaborations & Projects: Current projects include developing human intestinal organoids, studying probiotic interactions with epithelial cells, and analyzing prenylated phenolics' biotransformation. She has supervised PhD candidates in areas like protein immunogenicity and glycosylation effects on anti-tumor activities.
Publications: With 76+ research outputs, her recent work examines Toll-like receptor activation by protein inhibitors, immune system microphysiological systems, and microbial interactions in gut models.
