University of Wisconsin-Milwaukeeمعرفی
Shangping Xu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geosciences at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM), part of the College of Letters & Science. He holds a PhD and MS from Princeton University and a BS from Peking University. His research focuses on groundwater sustainability, contaminant transport, and novel water treatment technologies. Key areas include predicting contaminant movement in aquifers, developing cost-effective geosorbents like modified zeolites, and assessing climate change impacts on groundwater resources.
Educations:
- BS, Peking University, Beijing, China
- MS and PhD, Princeton University
Research Interests: Professor Xu addresses critical challenges in water quality and resource management. His work spans three themes:
- Contaminant Transport Modeling: Understanding bacterial and nanoparticle migration in groundwater
- Innovative Water Treatment: Designing affordable adsorbents (e.g., layered hydroxides, lanthanum-coated ceramics) for PFAS and arsenic removal
- Climate Change: Investigating how global shifts affect groundwater availability and quality
Lab & Collaborations: His lab develops sustainable filtration systems for point-of-use applications, with a focus on improving water accessibility in developing regions. Recent work emphasizes ceramic filter optimization and lanthanum-modified materials for arsenic remediation.
