Dr. Shanese L. Higgins is a Professor and Department Chair of Occupational Therapy at Kettering College, where she has served since 2014. She also currently serves as the Program Director for the Occupational Therapy program, demonstrating her leadership commitment to the academic unit.
Dr. Higgins' educational background includes:
- Doctorate of Health Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Indianapolis
- Masters of Occupational Therapy from the University of Indianapolis
- Bachelors of Science in Pre-PT/Exercise Science from the University of Dayton
As an Occupational Therapist with AOTA Board Certification in Mental Health, Dr. Higgins has practiced for over 18 years in the Greater Dayton Region. Her research focuses on diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice (DEIJ) in occupational therapy practice, mental and behavioral health interventions, experiential learning approaches in education, and the application of learning and personality inventories in therapeutic settings. Her work bridges clinical practice with academic instruction, emphasizing practical applications of occupational therapy principles while addressing systemic issues in healthcare delivery.
Dr. Higgins brings extensive clinical experience to her academic leadership roles, overseeing curriculum development, faculty coordination, and program administration.
