Professor Shane Pill is a faculty member at Flinders University, affiliated with the College of Education, Psychology and Social Work and the Institute for Mental Health and Wellbeing. His research focuses on curriculum and pedagogy in physical education, sport coaching, educational leadership, and community sport development. He has collaborated with national and international organizations such as Tennis Australia, Netball Australia, and the Australian Football League.
Research Interests: Professor Pill’s work bridges research and practice in areas like the Spectrum of Teaching Styles, game-based approaches, and quality teaching strategies. He emphasizes practitioner conceptions of learning and pedagogical content knowledge, particularly in sport and school leadership contexts.
Awards: Recipient of multiple accolades including the 2023 Spectrum of Teaching Styles Institute Award, the Metzler-Freedman Exemplary Paper Award, and Early Career Research Awards from ACHPER International. He is an ACHPER Life Member and Fellow.
Grants & Advising: Secured 27 external grants (18 as lead investigator) and supervised students in education leadership and related fields. Notable supervisee: Irena White, recipient of the Vice Chancellor’s Award for Doctoral Thesis Excellence (2021).
