Shane Brighton is a Senior Lecturer at Queen's University Belfast in the School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics, Department of Politics and International Relations. He supervises PhD students in sociological and postcolonial approaches to armed conflict, society-identity-security linkages, and public diplomacy. His research focuses on critical analyses of war, postcolonial politics, and international relations theory.
Key research interests include Eurocentrism in war narratives, security studies, and the intersection of identity and conflict. His publications span peer-reviewed articles in journals like Millennium: Journal of International Studies and Cambridge Review of International Affairs, as well as chapters in edited volumes such as the Routledge Handbook of Critical International Relations.
Brighton actively participates in academic events, including the European International Studies Association workshops and conferences on diplomatic history. He has delivered invited talks on Northern Ireland's historical diplomacy and engaged in interdisciplinary dialogues on diaspora communities and conflict.
