Shana Stewart Deeds is Laboratory Instructor in Biology and Environmental Studies at Bowdoin College. She teaches BIOL 2315 (Behavioral Ecology and Population Biology) and ENVS 2201 (Perspectives in Environmental Science), with an emphasis on field-based ecological exploration in Maine.
Her research interests focus on ecological systems in vulnerable environments, particularly:
- Amphibian and reptile ecology
- Water quality assessment
- Agricultural impacts on ecosystems
- River conservation and management
Before joining Bowdoin, she led river conservation initiatives in Vermont, including successful campaigns to designate the Missisquoi and Trout Rivers as Wild and Scenic waterways. Her interdisciplinary background spans ecological surveying, agricultural systems, and environmental education.
