Dr. Jennifer Mook is a Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of North Georgia. Her expertise spans herpetology, genetics, cell biology, and molecular microbiology, with a focus on reptilian physiology, phylogenetics education, and environmental ecology. She has taught foundational and advanced courses in biology, anatomy, and field ecology.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Animal Physiology, Clemson University (2007)
- M.S. in Zoology, Clemson University (2000)
- B.S. in Biology, Pennsylvania State University (1994)
Research Interests include Salmonella detection in Eastern Box Turtles, chromogenic diagnostic tools for poultry pathogen detection, GIS-based habitat mapping for turtle populations, and bioinformatics-driven phylogenetics education. Her work integrates molecular methods, field ecology, and pedagogical innovation.
Courses Taught: BIOL 1101, BIOL 1107K, BIOL 1108K, BIOL 2251K, BIOL 2252K, BIOL 3326K, BIOL 4700, ECOL 1000 (Field Ecology: Reptiles/Amphibians, Tropical Ecology).
Professional Background: Prior roles include Postdoctoral Research Associate at Virginia State University and Zookeeper/Educator at Greenville Zoo. She has contributed to environmental testing labs, wildlife conservation, and interdisciplinary technology projects.
