Shan Suthaharan

Dr. Shan Suthaharan is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG), where he has held academic roles since 2001. He specializes in Machine Learning, Big Data Analytics, Cybersecurity, and Medical Imaging. His research focuses on developing smart machine learning models and secure big data techniques, with applications in interdisciplinary fields such as healthcare and vision science.

Dr. Suthaharan has been recognized as a top 2% global scientist in multiple domains (2021-2023) and received the 'Highly Ranked Scholar – Lifetime' award in 2024. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed articles and holds patents in encryption technologies. His work includes contributions to facial emotion detection, retinal imaging analysis, and quantum machine learning.

His research has been funded by organizations like the National Institute of Health and the Foundation Fighting Blindness. He served as Graduate Program Director (2021-2022) and Interim Head of the Department (2015).
