Dr. Shamsul Haque is a Senior Lecturer in Soil Science at Charles Sturt University, affiliated with the School of Agricultural, Environmental and Veterinary Sciences and the Gulbali Research Institute. He is based at the Wagga Wagga campus and teaches core courses including Soil Science (PSC104), Soil Management (PSC415), and Summer Cropping Systems (PSC406).
His research focuses on sustainable agricultural systems, particularly soil health, crop rotation, weed seedbank dynamics, biochar-microbe interactions, and the ecological role of dung beetles in soil function. He leads and participates in multiple externally funded projects, including MLA-funded research on dung beetles, CSU-funded biochar studies, and government-supported soil extension work in the Riverina region. Dr. Haque also explores innovative systems such as solar panel-integrated dryland pasture and contributes to the DAFF Future Drought Fund Long Term Trials.
His publication record spans over 30 outputs, with recent work emphasizing soil chemistry in rice-based systems, weed suppression in broadacre crops, and sustainable fertilization practices. The articles highlight a strong interdisciplinary focus on agronomy, soil science, and environmental sustainability.
- Senior Lecturer in Soil Science
- Researcher in sustainable agriculture and soil health
- Active supervisor of PhD students
- Recipient of multiple research grants
Dr. Haque has published extensively on topics such as Mn2+ dynamics in rice soils, weed seedbank management, and controlled-release fertilizers. His work bridges academic research with practical agricultural applications, particularly in southern NSW.
