Shameem Ahmed

Dr. Shameem Ahmed is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Western Washington University. He co-founded and co-directs the NEAT (Next Generation Effective Affective Technology) research group, focusing on interdisciplinary work at the intersection of technology for neurodivergent individuals, human-computer interaction (HCI), and information and communication technologies for development (ICTD).

His research explores assistive technologies for autistic individuals, including emotion detection, stress prediction, and accessible education design. Recent work includes IEEE COMPSAC 2024 publications on emotion recognition systems and assessment techniques for autistic students.

His peer-reviewed articles span topics like mixed-reality training platforms, data-driven stress analysis, and self-healing middleware, with a focus on surveys, systematic reviews, and technology deployment in developing regions. He has mentored students receiving WWU CS Outstanding Graduate Student and Alumni Awards.
