Rabbi Shalom Carmy is an Assistant Professor of Jewish Philosophy and Bible at Yeshiva University, affiliated with its Wilf campus. He serves as editor of Tradition, the theological journal of the Rabbinical Council of America, and is an affiliated scholar at Cardozo Law School. His roles include membership in the Erasmus and Dulles Forums.
Education: BS and MS from Yeshiva University, and Rabbinic Ordination from Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary.
Research interests focus on biblical theology, modern Jewish thought (particularly thinkers like Rabbis Soloveitchik and Kook), religious Zionism, and the intersection of liberal arts with religious study. He explores tensions between traditional Talmud study, modern scholarship, and theology, as well as the intellectual journey of religious individuals.
Award-winning educator, having received the Baumol Teaching Award and twice named Professor of the Year at Yeshiva College. Regularly publishes in journals like Tradition, Torah uMadda Journal, and First Things.
Teaching includes courses on biblical interpretation, Jewish ethics, Zionism, and the thought of Rabbi Soloveitchik. Office located in Furst Hall, Gottesman Library, Wilf Campus.
