Shalini Arunogiri is an Associate Professor (Research) at Monash University and an NHMRC Emerging Leader. She specializes in addiction psychiatry, focusing on methamphetamine use, dual diagnosis of mental health and substance use disorders, and integrated care models. As the inaugural clinical director of Victoria’s Hamilton Centre, she leads efforts in treating mental health and addiction through integrated care. She previously chaired the RANZCP’s Addiction Psychiatry Faculty (2017–2024) and served on the International Society of Addiction Medicine’s Board (2019–2024). Her research spans psychedelic-assisted therapies, women’s health in addiction, and clinical trial development.
Her work addresses co-occurring PTSD and addiction, leveraging telehealth and innovative pharmacotherapies. Key projects include the OLAM trial for methamphetamine withdrawal and the CBD-CUD trial for cannabis dependence. She co-leads initiatives like the ‘Beyond 50’ cohort study on healthy ageing and scalable CBT for traumatised youth. Her expertise contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals targeting health equity and well-being.
Grants & Projects: Chief Investigator on 21 projects, including NHMRC-funded trials. Her leadership in global networks (e.g., World Association of Dual Disorders) drives policy and training in addiction medicine. She co-authored 89 research outputs, with recent focus on recovery capital, mirtazapine for methamphetamine dependence, and cannabidiol for cannabis use disorder.
