Professor Sagnik Bhattacharyya is a Professor of Translational Neuroscience and Psychiatry at King's College London's Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN). He leads the Translational Neuroscience and Psychiatry research group and heads the Psychosis Clinical Academic Group. His work focuses on understanding the neurobiology of psychotic and substance abuse disorders, particularly cannabis use, with a clinical focus on dual diagnosis (psychosis and substance misuse). He is a Consultant Psychiatrist at South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, running a specialist clinic.

Research Interests: Professor Bhattacharyya’s research integrates clinical trials, neuroimaging (fMRI/MRS/PET), and epidemiological studies to explore cannabis's effects on psychosis, cognitive impairment, and neurobiological mechanisms. Key areas include cannabidiol (CBD) as a therapeutic agent in schizophrenia, Parkinson's disease psychosis, and Alzheimer's disease. He investigates how cannabis use impacts psychosis risk, brain function, and clinical outcomes, with a focus on translational research from preclinical models to human trials.
