Shalene Allen, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Kansas State University (KSU), joining the university in 2024. She holds BS, MS, and PhD degrees from Portland State University, specializing in Industrial Organizational Psychology with minors in Occupational Health Psychology and Quantitative Methodology. Her research focuses on workplace support systems, employee well-being, and interventions targeting vulnerable worker populations. Dr. Allen’s work addresses how organizational, supervisor, and coworker support impacts employee mental health and coping strategies, with a current emphasis on intimate partner violence (IPV) and emergency medical service worker safety.
Dr. Allen’s ongoing projects include investigating IPV and workplace support frameworks, service member health, and emergency medical service worker well-being. She mentors undergraduate research assistants and recruits graduate students in her lab, emphasizing a scientist-practitioner approach. Her lab offers training in data management, publication, and grant proposal development. Dr. Allen’s research often employs mixed-methods approaches to evaluate intervention efficacy and reduce workplace disparities.
Her recent publications explore leadership training during crises, supervisor behaviors’ impact on mental health, and organizational policies for employee well-being. Dr. Allen actively collaborates on grants focused on high-risk occupational contexts and advocates for evidence-based workplace support systems.
