Dr. Shakunthala Nair is an Assistant in Extension, Community IPM at the University of Arizona, affiliated with the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. She joined the Arizona Pest Management Center in 2013 and leads the Community Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Leadership Team, focusing on school IPM programs and stakeholder engagement. Her work bridges research and extension, emphasizing sustainable pest management practices.
Education: Ph.D. in Entomology from the University of Georgia (2013), postdoctoral research in landscape IPM at UGA. She holds Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in agriculture from India.
Research Interests:
Integrated Pest Management in community environments, school IPM, vector-borne disease control, and urban pest management. She specializes in bed bugs, mosquitoes, and landscape pests, advocating for non-chemical solutions and public health initiatives.
Key Contributions:
Led Arizona School IPM programs, developed extension publications, and presented nationally/internationally on IPM strategies. Her research spans pest resistance, herbicide efficacy, and vector biology, with a focus on public health and environmental sustainability.
