Shakil Ahmed

Dr. Shakil Ahmed, M.B., B.S., is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at Weill Cornell Medicine. He is also an Assistant Attending Anesthesiologist at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, specializing in Pain Medicine/Management. Dr. Ahmed earned his M.B., B.S. from Khyber Medical College (Pakistan) in 1981 and completed six years of surgical training in the UK, earning his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS). He pursued residency in anesthesiology at Columbia University and a quad-institutional Pain Fellowship at New York-Presbyterian, Hospital for Special Surgery, Memorial Sloan Cancer Center, and Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center.

Dr. Ahmed's research focuses on advancing state-of-the-art pain technologies, including spinal cord stimulation, radiofrequency neurolysis, and intrathecal pain therapies. His clinical expertise spans chronic pain management, with emphasis on back pain, neuropathic pain, cancer pain, and interventional techniques. His 2023 publication on spinal cord stimulation systems highlights his commitment to improving chronic pain treatment safety.

Dr. Ahmed has held leadership roles such as Interim Director and Associate Director of the Tri-Institute Pain Medicine Fellowship Program. He has been internationally recognized as a visiting professor by The American-Austrian Foundation, training physicians from Eastern Europe in pain medicine.

As an active principal investigator, Dr. Ahmed collaborates on research grants and mentors medical students, residents, and fellows while leading clinical programs at the Center for Comprehensive Spine Care.
