Shahnawaz Sinha

Shahnawaz Sinha serves as a Research Associate Professor at Arizona State University's School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment (SSEBE), with additional affiliation at the university's Water Institute. His work focuses on advancing water treatment technologies and sustainable engineering solutions for complex water challenges.

Professor Sinha's research program addresses critical water infrastructure needs through experimental and applied investigations. His expertise spans drinking water treatment optimization, characterization of organic matter in water systems, membrane filtration processes, and industrial wastewater solutions. With 17 years of combined academic and industry experience prior to joining ASU in 2016, he brings practical engineering insights to his academic work, particularly in pilot-scale validation of treatment technologies and desalination processes for both seawater and brackish sources.

As an educator, Professor Sinha mentors graduate students through independent research courses (CEE 790) and thesis supervision (CHE 599), guiding investigations in water quality dynamics and treatment system performance. His academic service includes collaboration with ASU's Water Institute, where he contributes to interdisciplinary initiatives addressing regional and global water sustainability challenges.
