Shahid Hussain

Shahid Hussain is an Associate Professor of Biomedical Robotics, AI and Robotics at the University of Canberra. His work focuses on assistive and rehabilitation robotics, compliant actuation, robot mechanism design, nonlinear dynamics, and biomechanical modeling. He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Auckland (2013) and previously worked as a lecturer at the University of Wollongong.

Recent work highlights the integration of AI techniques (deep learning, reinforcement learning) into robotic systems for personalized rehabilitation solutions. He leads projects like the 'Novel Robot for Ankle Neurorehabilitation' (2025-2026) and has published over 80 papers in top journals. Currently accepting PhD students in rehabilitation robotics.
