Professor Shahed Imam is a Chair in Accounting at the Department of Accounting, Birmingham Business School, University of Birmingham. He joined the university in 2022 after previously holding a position at the University of Warwick. He earned his PhD and MPhil from the Judge Business School, University of Cambridge.

His primary research focuses on financial analysts' decision-making, equity valuation, and the usefulness of accounting information in capital markets. He employs both quantitative and qualitative methods, including field studies and textual analysis, to explore how analysts interpret financial statements and media, and how climate risk disclosures influence investor perceptions.
His recent publications span leading journals such as The Accounting Review, Contemporary Accounting Research, Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal, and European Accounting Review. The body of his work reveals a consistent trend in understanding the intersection of accounting information, market behavior, and analyst cognition, with increasing attention to non-traditional data sources like media tone and climate disclosures.
