معرفی
Shady Rahayel is an Assistant Professor at the Université de Montréal within the Faculty of Medicine - Department of Medicine. His research focuses on the neurodegenerative mechanisms underlying dementia with Lewy bodies and Parkinson’s disease, leveraging computational neuroscience and brain imaging techniques. He investigates how sleep abnormalities, particularly REM sleep behavior disorder, contribute to disease progression.
Research Expertise: His lab integrates multimodal imaging (MRI, SPECT) with machine learning to identify predictive biomarkers for synucleinopathies. Key areas include:
- REM sleep behavior disorder phenoconversion to Parkinson’s
- Cortical atrophy progression patterns
- Neuroimaging-based risk stratification
Awards: Recipient of the Prix de la meilleure thèse de doctorat from UQAM’s Faculty of Humanities (2021).
Education:
- PhD in Psychology (2019) - Université du Québec à Montréal
- Postdoctoral Research (2020): Nuclear Medicine - University Institute of Geriatrics of Montreal
- Postdoctoral Research (2023): Neurosciences - McGill University
Lab & Affiliations: Leads the Shady Lab at the CIUSSS Research Center North of Montreal, collaborating on projects involving:
- Machine learning applications in neurodegenerative imaging
- Longitudinal study of synucleinopathies
- Neuroimaging of sleep disorders in aging populations
