Shadreck Chirikure is the Edward Hall Professor of Archaeological Science at the University of Oxford and serves as Director of the Research Laboratory for Archaeology and the History of Art (RLAHA). He is also a British Academy Global Professor and holds fellowships from the British Academy (2024) and the Royal Society of Arts (2022). His work integrates archaeological science with social sciences and humanities to address past and present challenges, focusing on ancient technologies, material culture, and globalization.
Research interests include archaeometallurgy, innovation, heritage science, and sustainability across Africa, Europe, Central America, and the Indian Ocean Rim. Current projects involve studying resource circulation at Great Zimbabwe, Viking iron production in Norway, and material analysis of the Bom Jesus Shipwreck. He teaches courses on archaeological materials and supervises doctoral research on topics like pottery analysis, Indian Ocean trade, and museum curation.
