Dr. Shadaab Rahemtulla is a Senior Lecturer in Islamic Studies at the University of Edinburgh's School of Divinity. His research focuses on religion, power dynamics, and resistance, with a particular emphasis on liberation theology and gender justice in Islamic contexts. He holds a PhD from the University of Oxford (2013) and previously served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Jordan (2013–2019).
His work includes the book Qur'an of the Oppressed (Oxford UP, 2018) and the edited volume The Future of Islamic Liberation Theology (2023). He has also led initiatives on campus diversity, winning the University’s Advancing Inclusion Award in 2022.
