Shabana Younus serves as a Lecturer Practitioner at Anglia Ruskin University within the School of Psychology, Sport and Sensory Science (Faculty of Science and Engineering). She specializes in Contact Lenses, dividing her time between clinical practice at a major optical group and teaching across Ophthalmic Dispensing and Optometry pathways. Since joining ARU in May 2021, she has led five discipline modules and currently holds the position of Course Leader.
Her educational background includes a Post Graduate Certificate of Education in Learning and Teaching from Anglia Ruskin University, MECS/GAT Accreditation from Wales Optometry Postgraduate Education Centre, a Contact Lens Certificate from Bradford College, and an Ophthalmic Dispensing Fellowship Diploma from ABDO. She qualified as a Dispensing Optician in 2001 and as a Contact Lens Optician in 2004 after beginning her optical career in 1999.
Shabana's research centers on Contact Lenses with specialized focus on Dry Eye management, where she previously served as principal leader. Her clinical expertise informs her teaching across FdSc Ophthalmic Dispensing, PG Cert Contact Lenses, BSc (Hons) Dispensing Optician, and BOptom Optometry programs, emphasizing practical application of optical correction methods.
Her scholarly contributions include publications analyzing comparative efficacy of vision correction approaches, with recent work examining patient outcomes between spectacles and contact lenses.
