Sez Atamturktur is the Harry and Arlene Schell Professor of Architectural Engineering at Pennsylvania State University's College of Engineering. As Interim Head of the Department, they lead research in structural health monitoring, uncertainty quantification, and sustainable infrastructure. Their work integrates computational modeling, experimental validation, and interdisciplinary educational initiatives.
Research focuses include vibration-based damage detection, fault tree analysis for seismic risks, and leakage monitoring in pipeline systems. They have pioneered Bayesian inference methods for model calibration and contributed to curriculum development bridging engineering and architectural disciplines. Key achievements include an NSF CAREER Grant (2020) and induction into the National Academy of Construction.
Publications span structural dynamics, computational mechanics, and education innovation. Grant-funded projects address challenges like Alaska rural community resilience and bridge health monitoring. Ongoing work explores AI applications in construction inclusivity and lighting solutions for dementia care environments.
