Sewin Chan is an Associate Professor of Public Policy at New York University's Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service and serves as the Director of the PhD Program there. She is an economist specializing in household economic and financial risks related to housing, labor, and credit markets.
- Education: B.A. from Cambridge University, Ph.D. in Economics from Columbia University
Her research examines mortgages, housing market risk, rental markets, consumer credit behavior, pensions, work and retirement decisions, job loss, geographic mobility, and accessible housing. She also contributes to policy analysis in retirement planning and financial literacy.
Dr. Chan received the Best Paper Award from the Real Estate Economics Journal in 2016. She previously served on the U.S. Department of Labor’s Advisory Council on Employee Welfare and Pension Benefit Plans.
