Seungyup Lee

Seungyup Lee, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at the School of Medicine and the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Case School of Engineering, Case Western Reserve University. His dual appointments reflect his interdisciplinary research in cardiovascular engineering and cardiac electrophysiology.

Dr. Lee’s education includes a BSc in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science from Kyungpook National University (2005), MSc (2008) and PhD (2013) in Biomedical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University. He completed a Cardiology residency at Case Western Reserve University/University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center (2016).

Research: Dr. Lee focuses on atrial fibrillation mechanisms, signal processing algorithms, and medical device development. Key areas include canine and swine models of AF, high-density mapping systems, and real-time analysis tools for catheter/surgical ablation. His recent collaborations involve developing smart mapping catheters with industry partners.

Publications: Over 15 peer-reviewed articles since 2013, emphasizing AF mechanisms (e.g., foci/rotor dynamics), novel animal models (swine sterile pericarditis), and algorithmic advancements in clinical electrophysiology. His work bridges basic science and clinical applications in arrhythmia management.

Labs/Teams: Active in cardiac electrophysiology research labs at Case Western Reserve, collaborating with engineering and medical teams on device innovation and translational research.
