Dr. Seungil Kim is an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Mississippi State University's Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering. His research focuses on biomedical polymer engineering, particularly in designing sustainable, biocompatible, and stimuli-responsive polymers for applications in vascular repair, embolization systems, and drug delivery. He holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Manitoba and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Pittsburgh's McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine.
Dr. Kim's work emphasizes structure-property-function relationships in biomaterials, including bioresorbable embolization coils, injectable hydrogels for cerebral aneurysms, and wireless drug delivery systems. He has received grants from the Brain Aneurysm Foundation (2022, 2023) and served on organizing committees for the Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association (KSEA) SEED workshops (2023–2024). His leadership roles include NIH Early Career Reviewer (2023) and Guest Editor for Coatings (2022).
His lab develops innovative biomaterials for cardiovascular and neural applications, with a focus on translating research into clinical solutions. Current projects include biodegradable heart valve frames, shape-memory devices activated by ultrasound, and anti-thrombotic coatings for medical devices. Dr. Kim seeks motivated graduate students and long-term undergraduate researchers to advance these areas.
