Dr. Seunghyun Khim is a Research Professor and Group Leader in the Material design and synthesis group within the Physics of Quantum Materials department at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids in Dresden, Germany.
His research focuses on quantum criticality and the discovery of compounds with new, unexpected physical properties in strongly correlated electron systems. His work primarily involves:
- Synthesis of intermetallic compounds based on rare earths (Kondo lattices, heavy fermion systems, valence-fluctuating materials)
- Development of complex oxides based on 3d, 4d, or 5d transition metals
- Exploration of materials near quantum critical points
Dr. Khim leads research projects focused on novel multi-phase superconductors and works closely with several research groups including those led by Brando, Mackenzie, Klauß, Hassinger, Davis, Vojta, Meng, Wosnitza, Gibbs, and Nicklas.
His research methodology spans from preparation of polycrystalline samples to synthesis of high quality single crystals for dedicated experiments, with close interactions maintained with both experimental and theoretical research groups.
