Seth W. Snyder is an Adjunct Professor at Northwestern University's McCormick School of Engineering, affiliated with the Mechanical Engineering and Chemical and Biological Engineering departments. He serves as Director of Clean Energy & Transportation at Idaho National Laboratory, managing a $25M budget and 100 staff. His research focuses on bioenergy, vehicle technologies, power systems, and water treatment, with recent expansions into advanced manufacturing and hybrid energy systems. He leads the DOE SMART Mobility Consortium and coordinates Energy-Water Nexus initiatives.
- Education: PhD in Biophysics (Univ. of Virginia, 1989), MS in Physical Chemistry (Univ. of Virginia, 1985), BA in Chemistry & Environmental Studies (Univ. of Pennsylvania, 1980).
- Affiliations: Master of Biotechnology Program, University of Chicago's Energy Policy Institute, Northwestern-Argonne Institute for Science and Engineering.
His research interests span clean energy systems, sustainable water technologies, and energy policy. He has published over 60 papers, holds 18 patents, and developed commercial wastewater treatment technologies through AD Up Water LLC. His awards include three R&D 100 Awards and an FLC Technology Transfer Award.
Dr. Snyder teaches graduate and undergraduate courses on energy and sustainability at Northwestern, and authored Commercializing Biobased Products. He advises national labs, serves on industry consortia like DRINC, and collaborates internationally on membrane technologies.
