Seth Field is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He is a member of the Developmental Therapeutics Program at the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center and an investigator at the Harrington Discovery Institute. His research focuses on the cell biology of cancer, particularly the role of Golgi secretory machinery in oncogenesis. Dr. Field's work investigates how components of the Golgi apparatus contribute to cancer progression and identifies molecular vulnerabilities for targeted therapies.
His laboratory has discovered that Golgi-associated proteins like GOLPH3 are frequently amplified in cancers, driving tumor growth. They are developing small molecule inhibitors targeting these pathways, offering novel therapeutic approaches orthogonal to existing treatments. Dr. Field also holds the Becky Hennessy Endowed Master Clinician in Breast Cancer Genomics and practices as an attending physician in Endocrinology at University Hospitals.
Research interests include membrane trafficking mechanisms, phosphatidylinositol signaling, and oncogenic pathways. Key findings link GOLPH3 to DNA damage responses and cell migration, with implications for cancer metastasis. His work bridges basic cell biology and translational oncology, emphasizing drug discovery.
