Seth Danielson is a Professor in the Department of Physical Oceanography at the University of Alaska Fairbanks' College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences. His research focuses on continental shelf processes in Alaska’s marginal seas, integrating observational data and numerical models. He leads projects on climate-driven ocean variability, Arctic ecosystem monitoring, and fisheries management support.
Education: Ph.D. Oceanography (2012), M.S. Oceanography (1996), B.S. Electrical Engineering (1990), all from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and Lehigh University.
Research interests include atmosphere-ocean interactions, borealization impacts, and subarctic Arctic shelf dynamics. Recent work emphasizes climate change effects on marine ecosystems, ocean acidification, and the role of freshwater pathways in Alaska waters.
Publications highlight studies on Gulf of Alaska fisheries management, Arctic estuary processes, and the International Bathymetric Chart of the Arctic Ocean. He collaborates on NSF-funded Long Term Ecological Research and the Northern Gulf of Alaska monitoring program.
Advises students and mentors postdocs in oceanography and marine science. Active in professional societies like the American Geophysical Union and The Oceanography Society.
