Amanda Kelley is an Associate Professor in the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, specializing in ecological physiology and global change biology. Her research focuses on organism-environment interactions in coastal marine ecosystems, particularly the impacts of ocean acidification, warming, and deoxygenation on Arctic and subarctic species.
She holds a B.S. in Biology and a Ph.D. in Ecological Physiology from Portland State University, followed by an NSF Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her work integrates time-series observational data with field and laboratory experiments to predict species responses to environmental changes.
Current projects include transcriptomic responses of Antarctic sea urchin larvae to ocean change and monitoring nearshore carbonate chemistry dynamics in Alaska's marginal seas using autonomous sensors. Her lab collaborates with organizations like NOAA and the Alutiiq Pride Shellfish Hatchery to study subsistence bivalve resilience and coastal pH variability.
Dr. Kelley advises graduate students on topics ranging from larval development of Pacific razor clams to the physiological effects of environmental stressors. Her research outputs emphasize the development of sensors for ocean monitoring and the mitigation of acidification impacts through seagrass studies.
