Assoc. Prof. Serpil Kocaman is an active faculty member at Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University's Faculty of Tourism, Department of Tourism Management, holding the rank of Associate Professor since 2017. She currently serves as Vice Dean of the Faculty (2022) and previously held administrative roles including Deputy Director of the Research and Application Center (2021) and Deputy Director of the Vocational School (2022). Her academic career spans over 16 years with continuous contributions to tourism education since 2007.
Her educational qualifications include:
- Ph.D. in Tourism Management and Hotel Management from Akdeniz University (2012), dissertation: 'The impact of factors affecting brand identity on brand image within the scope of destination management: The example of Alanya'
- Master's degree in Tourism and Hotel Management from Akdeniz University (2009), thesis: 'Organizational alienation in the tourism sector: A study on five-star accommodation establishments in Antalya'
- Bachelor's degree in Tourism Management Education from Gazi University (2006)
Her research agenda prominently features Tourism Marketing and Management with specialized focus on Gender in Tourism, Digital Nomad Tourism, and Digitalization in Tourism. Her methodology combines quantitative analysis of tourist behavior with destination management frameworks, consistently using Alanya as a primary case study. Recent work examines psychological empowerment of women in hospitality and the impact of digital transformation on tourist experiences.
Analysis of her 14 journal publications (2011-2023) reveals three dominant research trajectories: (1) Destination competitiveness and branding (35% of output), (2) Digital tourism phenomena including e-complaints and nomadism (40%), and (3) Gender dynamics in tourism employment (25%). Her work demonstrates strong regional focus on Mediterranean tourism destinations with increasing international collaboration since 2020.
Prof. Kocaman actively contributes to academic knowledge through 8 book chapters including 'Exploring Digital Nomads in the Tourism Context' (2024) and 'Gender Equality in Sustainable Tourism' (2022). She holds a Fidelio Suit8 Hotel Management System Certification (2008) and maintains active participation in national tourism conferences including the 24th National Tourism Congress (2023).
