Sergio Ferrero

Sergio Ferrero is a Full Professor at the Politecnico di Torino, affiliated with the Department of Applied Science and Technology (DISAT) and the Interdepartmental Center PEIC - Power Electronics Innovation Center. His primary roles include teaching in doctoral programs such as PHOTOVOLTAICS and ELECTRICAL, ELECTRONICS AND COMMUNICATIONS ENGINEERING across multiple cycles. He has been actively involved in teaching physics courses for engineering disciplines and supervising PhD students in micro- and nanotechnologies.

His research focuses on power semiconductor diodes, solid-state physics, and nanophysics, with a strong emphasis on applications in sustainable energy and environmental monitoring. Key projects include the AGRITECH National Research Centre, WATT4FRED (innovative silicon power devices), and environmental sensor technologies for water quality monitoring. He has also led commercial research projects related to power electronics packaging, additive manufacturing, and sensor systems for hostile environments.

Dr. Ferrero’s contributions extend to lab-on-a-chip technology, laser annealing, and 3D-printed microfluidic devices. He oversees the CHILAB - Materials and Microsystems laboratory and has contributed to patents on electrode manufacturing and e-textile applications. His work bridges academic research with industrial collaboration, emphasizing green technologies and smart systems.

He has advised four PhD students and contributed to over 50 publications, with recent work focusing on environmental sensors, power electronics reliability, and advanced manufacturing techniques. His interdisciplinary approach integrates materials science, electronics, and environmental engineering to address contemporary challenges in energy and sustainability.
