Professor Sergey Anatolyevich Vodennikov is a distinguished faculty member at Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University, serving in the Department of Machines and Foundry Technology within the Engineering-Physical Faculty. With over three decades of academic and research experience, he holds the position of Professor and has made significant contributions to materials science and metallurgy. His work bridges theoretical knowledge with practical industrial applications, particularly in foundry technologies and material reinforcement.
Professor Vodennikov received his higher education from Zaporizhia Industrial Institute in 1988, specializing in 'Metallurgy of non-ferrous metals' with the qualification of 'metallurgical engineer.' He further advanced his academic credentials by defending his Candidate's thesis in 1994 on 'Study of alloy formation processes during the separation of metals on a steel cathode by electrolysis of ionic melts' and his Doctoral dissertation in 2010 titled 'Scientific and technological foundations of the formation of composite coatings from ionic melts for the predicted provision of functional properties of porous materials.'
His research spans multiple critical areas including strengthening technologies of foundry equipment, reinforcement of porous materials, heat-resistant alloys, and additive manufacturing techniques. Professor Vodennikov has pioneered work in selective laser sintering applications for aviation components and developed innovative approaches to protective coatings for reinforcing steels. His scientific interests focus on enhancing material performance under extreme conditions, particularly addressing wear resistance and structural integrity challenges.
Analyzing his recent publications reveals a strong emphasis on practical industrial applications of advanced materials. His work consistently addresses contemporary challenges in metallurgy, including energy conservation in steel production, modernization of sintering processes, and optimization of additive manufacturing techniques for high-performance alloys. Professor Vodennikov teaches several key courses including Physical Chemistry, Technology of Manufacturing and Applying Protective and Decorative Coatings, Foundry Alloy Metallurgy and Technology, and Theoretical Foundations of Tooling Design. In 2022, he completed professional development training at Kryvyi Rih National University focusing on modern teaching methods and innovative technologies in mechanical engineering, metallurgy, and materials science, reflecting his commitment to educational excellence.
His laboratory work centers on advanced materials testing, particularly examining heat-resistant alloys under high-temperature abrasive-corrosion conditions and developing composite coatings for enhanced material performance. Professor Vodennikov collaborates extensively with industrial partners including PrJSC 'KAMET-STEEL,' applying academic research to solve real production challenges in metallurgical plants.
