Sergei A. Kan is a Professor of Anthropology at Dartmouth College, with affiliations at Harvard University’s Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies and the University of Haifa, Israel. His research focuses on Alaska Native cultures (particularly the Tlingit), the history of American and Russian anthropology, and Jewish diaspora ethnography. His work bridges ethnohistory, cultural anthropology, and visual documentation.

He has published biographies of key anthropologists like Alexander Goldenweiser and Paul Radin, and his work often intersects with themes of death, ethnicity, and nationalism.
