معرفی
Serge Bardet is a permanent faculty member (Lecturer in Ancient History, 21st CNU section) at the University of Évry–Val-d’Essonne, where he has taught since 2002 and held numerous academic governance roles including Vice-President of the Scientific Council (2012-2015) and Deputy Director of the Social Sciences & Management UFR (2010-2012).
Research interests: His work centres on the Eastern Hellenistic world and Judeo-Hellenistic culture, with particular emphasis on power, legitimacy, succession, cultural identity and gender. He maintains a critical historiographical focus on concepts such as Romanisation and Hellenisation, and pursues numismatic studies of representations of power and gender.
Across nearly three decades his publications have explored Flavius Josephus (Testimonium Flavianum, messianism, euergetism), Hellenistic queens (Cleopatra Thea, Julia Domna), and theoretical questions of acculturation and cultural transfer. Numismatic analysis, gendered power and Jewish-pagan interactions are recurring themes.
Selected writings: monograph The Testimonium Flavianum (2002), translations of M. H. Hansen and J. Ma, and over a dozen articles (1991-2019) on Josephus, numismatics, and historiography.
