Serena Filippelli is a fixed-term researcher (RTD-A) at the University of Parma, Department of Engineering of Systems and Industrial Technologies (DISTI). She holds a PhD in Industrial Engineering and a professional engineering license. Her work integrates sustainability, innovation management, and digital technologies, with a strong focus on the circular economy and open innovation in the food and fashion sectors.

Research Interests
Her research spans sustainable innovation, open innovation, circular economy strategies, green consumer behaviour, and digital transformation of supply chains. She employs bibliometric analyses, case studies and empirical surveys to explore how firms—especially in the food and fashion industries—can leverage digital technologies and collaborative models to achieve environmental and economic goals.
Publication Trends
Since 2020 she has published extensively on sustainability-driven innovation, consumer acceptance of refurbished and recycled products, the role of AI and RFID in operations, and open innovation patterns in traditional industries. Her output appears in highly ranked journals such as Journal of Cleaner Production, Sustainability, and European Journal of Innovation Management.

Teaching & Mentoring
She currently coordinates the module “Consumer behaviour, branding and advertising” within the BSc “Sustainable Design for the Food System” and has served as teaching assistant and tutor for business and management courses at the University of Parma and at the University of San Marino. She has co-supervised more than fifty BSc and MSc theses on topics ranging from circular economy to open innovation in the food industry.
