Prof. Dr. Selçuk URAL is a full-time Professor in the Department of History at Kafkas University's Faculty of Arts and Sciences, where he currently serves as Dean (since 2024) and previously held positions as Vice Rector (2016-2018, 2023-present). His academic career spans Turkish political history, with specialization in the Republic era, Atatürk's reforms, and Turkish-Russian conflicts.
Education:
- PhD in History of the Republic of Turkey, Atatürk University (1997-2002)
- MA in History of the Republic of Turkey, Atatürk University (1995-1997)
- BA in Turkish/Social Sciences Education, Gazi University (1985-1989)
His research focuses on modern Turkish political-military history, particularly:
- War of Independence dynamics and regional governance
- Turkish-Soviet relations during the Cold War
- Armenian-Turkish historical conflicts
- Socio-political transformations in Eastern Anatolia
As primary advisor, he has supervised 32 graduate theses (25 MA, 7 PhD) examining Turkish parliamentary history, regional conflicts, and Cold War diplomacy. He has led 16 research projects including TÜBİTAK-supported studies on defense systems and regional history.
Administratively, he established institutional frameworks as Department Head (15 years), Institute Director, and Research Center Manager. His editorial roles include leadership at Kafkas University's Social Sciences Journal.
