Selina Mudavanhu is an Associate Professor at McMaster University’s Department of Communication Studies and Media Arts within the Faculty of Humanities. Her work bridges critical media studies, decolonial theory, and digital storytelling, with a focus on power dynamics in media representation and marginalized voices.

Mudavanhu’s research examines how mainstream and social media construct race and intersecting identities, analyzing implications for marginalized communities. She emphasizes subaltern agency through digital storytelling and critiques of power structures.
Her recent articles address decolonizing media education, social media activism, and media framing in African contexts. Key themes include critical race theory, political discourse, and reclaiming African epistemologies.
Scientific awards include grants from the Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program and the Petro-Canada-McMaster Young Innovator Award, supporting her digital storytelling initiatives. She has taught courses on alternative media, social activism, and digital production since 2013.
